Army LTC (Ret) Kathy Roth and her Service Dog “Sully”

Canine Soldiers…. American War Dogs!

March 21, 2018 1PM Military Heritage Museum Conference Room

Military Heritage Museum, in conjunction with Florida Gulf Coast University, is proud to announce our first annual mini lecture series.  The next lecture in the series will be on March 21st with Dr. Kathy Roth, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret), who will address the historical use of dogs in American military service. Joining her will be Barbara Snow, Executive Director, U.S. War Dogs Association, Chapter 2, located in Bronson, Florida. You will have a chance to meet and greet canine soldiers!

We will cover war dogs including the hairless Xoloitzcuintli … Zolo for short . “The Xolo is one of the world’s oldest, and until recently, rarest breeds and with 3000 years of history … IT IS THE AMERICAN DOG. Their descendants, long thought extinct, were found in the interiors several decades ago and now they are a sanctioned breed of the Mexican equivalent of the AKC and the breed made it first appearance at Westminster last year.” Dr. Roth will also talk about the Mastiffs and their quilted cotton armor brought to America by the Conquistadors, battlefield canines of the Civil War, Trench Warfare terriers used in WWI, the Doberman of WWII,  the 25 Marine War Dogs who gave their lives liberating Guam in 1944, the German Shephard of Viet Nam, and the Belgian Malinois of the Gulf Wars. DON’T MISS THIS EVENT!!!
